4 things you should do today for your financial health.
By Alison Zaverl and Sam Neumann, financial councelors and all around awesome people here at NCCYou.

The past two years have been incredibly stressful, we can all agree on that. Between a global pandemic, the struggles of daily life, and our finances, it can be tough to want to tackle another thing at the end of the day. How would you like to have one less thing to worry about?
Whether you are wondering if you have the best interest rate or curious on how to improve your credit, a financial health checkup is something you should complete yearly if you can. Set goals, learn how to achieve them, and reassess at the beginning of each year. Let’s start by going over some of the things that you should look at in your financial health checkup. And remember, NCCYou is here to help with knowledgeable staff providing free check ups and $25 to all who participate.
Double check that budget: The first thing that we always suggest doing is reviewing your budget. What worked well this year? What didn’t? What new goal areas do you need to add this year? Adjusting your budget on a frequent basis makes sure that you are meeting both your needs and wants. If you know there is something you want, assign money in your budget to it. Can’t afford it right now? Add a savings plan for it in your budget.
Pay yourself first: You have likely heard this before, and that is because it is very important! Finding money in your budget to save can feel daunting, but it is the biggest piece of mind you can buy yourself. Imagine that you lose your job or your refridgerator goes out. Knowing that you have an emergency savings to rely on instead of having to max out a credit card, can be a night and day difference for your financial wellbeing.
Review your credit report: You can get one free credit report annually from each of the credit bureaus. NCCYOU can also do a soft pull to show you what your credit report looks like. Take a peek. Does everything look accurate? Do you know what interest rates you are getting? Can anything be consolidated? Does your credit union have something better? Make sure you are looking into what options will improve your credit and be a good fit for you lifestyle.
Have an eagle eye: Reviewing your transaction history, whether it be your checkbook ledger, your online banking account, or your paper statements is essential to make sure you are keeping your accounts safe from fraud. You can also enable transaction alerts through our online banking app and our Card Nav app. As our mascot, Earnie, likes to say: “Keeping an eagle eye on your accounts is a great way to save money.”
The doctor’s orders are in, a financial checkup is prescribed to you in 2022! NCCYOU is offering free financial health check ups throughout February and March 2022. Oh, and remember that we are even giving you $25 to participate.
